Kokkola

Drei Wochen zuvor ging es zum On-Arrival-Training für uns EVS-ler nach Kokkola, und um es in wenigen Worten zusammenzufassen war es eine sehr interessante und erkenntnisreiche Woche. Montag war erst mal Anreisetag, ich bin seit langem nicht mehr so lang mit dem Zug gefahren wie an diesem Montag, es waren über 3 Stunden mit dem Zug von Lempäälä nach Tampere und dann nach Kokkola.
Auf der Reise dorthin konnte man jede Menge finnische Natur bewundern, da Teile der Strecke durch gefühltes Niemandsland führen, heißt manchmal hat man für über 15 Minuten bei ca. 200 km/h nichts als Wald gesehen. Wen wundert's, Finnland ist zu über 86 % bewaldet, wenn die Zahl stimmt. ;)
Im Bahnhofshaus stellte sich dann heraus dass ziemlich viele Freiwillige bereits früher angekommen waren. Man hat sich dann auch gleich gegenseitig vorgestellt, begrüßt und miteinander ein bisschen geschnackt.
Mit dem Bus ging es dann zur Villa Elba, welche direkt am See von Kokkola liegt. Das Gelände der Villa Elba, welche übrigens eines der vielen Jugendzentren von Finnland ist, ist ziemlich groß, das heißt es stehen unter anderem eine weitere, ältere Villa, und 6 kleine Wohnhäuser, in welchen übrigens wir Freiwilligen jene Woche gewohnt haben, darauf. Nach dem Auspacken war dann auch gleich eine Kennenlern-Runde auf dem Programm, und ich war erstaunt aus wie vielen Ländern die anderen kamen, Italien, Polen, Georgien, Serbien, Frankreich, Belgien, Spanien, Argentinien ...
Den Rest des Abends, den wir Freiwilligen in der alten Villa verbracht haben, ging dann eher ruhig zu.
Dienstags war dann hauptsächlich das Thema Freiwilligenarbeit in Europa auf dem Plan, heißt wir haben über unsere einzelnen Projekte gesprochen, was uns dazu motiviert hat ein EVS zu machen, was die Prinzipien der Freiwilligenarbeit sind etc. Abends gab es dann einen Sauna-Workshop, welche Arten von Sauna es gibt, welche Stellung das Saunieren in der finnischen Gesellschaft hat und so weiter. Abends waren wir dann wieder in der alten Villa wo es dann kleine Snacks, Kaffee und Tee gab.
Mittwochs ging es dann darum wie man mit kulturellen Differenzen und Konflikten umgeht, und nach dem Mittagessen haben wir jede Menge Infos über Erasmus+ und den EVS erhalten. Dieser Abend war dann anders als der vorherige, es stand nämlich die "Finnish Movie Night" an. Im Film ging es um einen finnischen Boxer in den 60er-Jahren und wie dieser sich auf den Kampf mit einem US-amerikanischen Boxer vorbereitet, der Finne verliert leider. :/
Donnerstag morgen hatten wir dann Finnischunterricht, in welchem ich persönlich nicht allzu viel neues gelernt, wir aber trotzdem Spaß hatten, und nachmittags ging es mit dem Bus zum Arktismuseum "Nanoq" bei Pietarsaari. Es gibt dort eine Ausstellung über verschiedene Arktis-Expeditionen, inklusive einiger Gegenstände welche auch von diesen stammen, zum Beispiel die Schneeschuhe, und auch eine Ausstellung über den Winterkrieg zwischen Finnland und Russland. Mit dem Bus wieder zurück in Kokkola angelangt, hatten wir ein bisschen mehr als eine Stunde Freizeit, welche die Serbin, deren Name mir gerade leider nicht einfällt, und ich genutzt haben indem wir durch den Stadtpark, in einen Instrumentenladen und in die städtische Bücherei gegangen sind, wo wir dann auch alle anderen getroffen haben.
Nach dem Essen in Kokkola ging es dann wieder zurück zur Villa Elba und in die Sauna, in dieser war dann ein elektrischer Saunaofen, welchen ich anfangs als etwas seltsam empfand, man gewöhnt sich aber nach einiger Zeit daran dass dort kein Feuer brennt, sondern Metallspiralen glühen, den restlichen Abend verbrachten wir dann wieder in der alten Villa.
Am nächsten Tag stand dann, wie am vorherigen Tag, die Finnisch-Stunde auf dem Programm, am Nachmittag ging es dann unter anderem um den Youth-Pass, was dieser bedeutet etc, abends gab es dann in der alten Villa eine sehr nette Abschiedsfeier für alle, und Freitag morgen mussten wir dann schon packen und unsere "Hütten" säubern. Es gab eine Evaluation in der Villa Elba, was heißt wir sollten bewerten wie uns diese Woche und was uns so alles weniger gefallen hat.
Kurz danach ging es dann mit dem Bus zum Bahnhof von Kokkola wo wir dann leider voneinander Abschied nehmen mussten.
Alles in allem fand ich diese Woche sehr einfallsreich und sehr schön.
Wie man den Bildern entnehmen kann, hatten wir auch jede Menge Schnee und Spaß bei einer Schneeballschlacht.

Three weeks before we went to the On-Arrival-Training in Kokkola, and to sum it up in a few words, it was a very interesting and imaginative week.
Monday was arrival-day, i haven't traveled that long with a train since a long time like on this day, it took over 3 hours from Lempäälä to Tampere and then to Kokkola.
While traveling there, you could admire very much finnish nature because the train-track leads through, seemed to me, no-mans-land, that means you saw nothing but nature for around 15 minutes while traveling with around 200 km/h. No wonder, because Finland is covered to 85% with forest, if i remembered that right.
In the waiting hall of the train station of Kokkola it appeared that some other volunteers had already arrived, we immediately introduced and talked to each other abount various things.
With the bus we then went to the Villa Elba, which is located directly at the lake of Kokkola.  The area of the Villa Elba, which is by the way one of the many youth centres in Finland, is quite big, that means there is also one old Villa and 6 cottages, of which we volunteers lived in 4, on that area. After unpacking all of our suitcases and bags there was already a "Get-to-know-each-other"-round on the schedule, and i was amazed by where all the others come from, Italy, Poland, Georgia, Serbia, France, Belgium, Spain, Argentinia ...
The rest of the evening we spent in the old Villa, it went quite relaxed.
Tuesday mainly voluntary work in Europe was on the schedule, that means we spoke about our projects, what motivated us to do a voluntary year, what the principles of voluntary work are etc. At the evening there was a Sauna-workshop, which types of Sauna exist, what the position of going to the Sauna has in the finnish society and so on. At the evening we were in the old Villa, where we ate small snacks and had coffee and tea.
At wednesday we had the theme of cultural differences and conflicts and how to deal with them, and after that we got very much information about Erasmus+ and the EVS. This evening was then different than the one before because we had the finnish movie night. The film was about a finnish boxer in the 60s and how he prepares for a fight against an US-american boxer, sadly the Finn loses. :/
Thursday morning we then had finnish lesson, in which i personally hadn't learn very much new, but we had fun nonetheless, and afternoon we went with the bus to the arctic-museum "Nanoq" close to Pietarsaari. There is one exhibition about various arctic-expeditions, including some items from those, and another one about the winter war between Finland and Russia. Arrived in Kokkola again, we had a bit more than one hour of free time, which the serbian girl, of who i can't remember the name at the moment, used to go through the city park, to a music shop and to the public library, where we also met the others.
After eating in Kokkola we went back to Villa Elba and to the sauna, where there was an electrical sauna-oven, which i found a bit strange at first, but you get used to the fact that there is no wood burning but metal helices are glowing, the rest of the night we spent in the old Villa with snacks, coffee and tea.
The next day there was, like the day before, the finnish lesson and in the afternoon we talked about the youth pass, what it is for etc. In the evening we had a very nice farewell-party in the old villa, and friday morning we already had to pack and clean our cottages. There was an evaluation in the Villa Elba, that means we should rate how we liked this week and what we didn't like that much.
Shortly after that the bus left to Kokkola, where we sadly had to say goodbye to each other.
All in all i really liked this week and found it very imaginative and beautiful.
As you can see in the pictures, we also had loads of snow and fun with a snowball fight.
